Those of you with long memories may well recall that way back in 2008 when ConFuzzled first happened we picked an animal welfare charity to donate our charity fundraiser money to. It was the start of a tradition that we have carried on every year and ten long years ago it was the Badger Trust that our very first convention helped out.
So we are very pleased to announce that the charity for ConFuzzled 2017 is the Badger Trust! You have no idea how excited Brok is right now and it is a delight for us here at ConFuzzled to be able to return to our first ever charity after so many years and once again reach out to give them a helping hand.
Badger Trust is the UK’s leading voice for badgers, actively promoting their conservation, welfare and the protection of their setts and habitats. They represent and assist many local badger groups comprising a total of at least 3,000 volunteers and 80 local badger groups, as well as working with the government, vets, welfare groups, police and wider public to fulfill their mission.
In the last few years much of Badger Trust’s efforts have been devoted to campaigning against a potential cull of badgers, which the National Farmers Union has been advocating in the vain hope that this will eliminate bovine tuberculosis (bTB) in cattle.
Badger Trust also actively addresses many issues facing badgers today. These include snares and other forms of persecution, which maim and kill badgers, developments which destroy badger setts and foraging grounds, and road traffic which kills tens of thousands of badgers every year.
